Lord Jesus, as our region prepares for a dangerous storm we are reminded of both our own frailty, and your strength to shelter us through all things. We turn to you to be our guide, shepherd, friend, and protector in the days to come.
We pray for those who have been displaced by the storm May they be given shelter and compassion
We pray for those who work with emergency services May they be given strength and endurance
We pray for our leaders May they be given the wisdom needed to respond to this emergency
We pray for our neighborhoods May we come together in the wake of the storm
We pray for your disciples, Lord May we always be examples of faith, compassion, and hope
Lord, grant us your peace That we might declare your praises
In your mercy Hear our prayer |

Every Spring I like to begin the process of planning out the sermons for the coming year. Usually, I'm able to do two or three sermon series a year, and I use Lectionary readings during Advent, Lent, and Easter. This structure usually fills out the sermon slots for the year, and let's Central Baptist cover some topics that are applicable to our current experience as Christians without losing the rhythm of the story of Christ which the Church Calendar gives us.
As we begin to map out the series for next year, we typically ask for input from the Central Baptist community. So here goes!
- Is there a particular book of the Bible you would be interested in studying as a congregation next year?
- Are there any particular "itches" that you want to scratch in the community? Something that you've encountered in your devotional reading, for instance.
- Are there anything going on in the world which you would like to wrestle with in a Scriptural context?
- Are there any topics you'd really enjoy meditating on as a community through a sermon series?
Thanks for your consideration! If you want to share a thought or idea you can drop me an e-mail or send me a message on twitter @wezlo.

This Sunday Central Baptist will have a new seeing-eye dog joining us for worship. In order to help solidify the working partnership between our brother and his partner we're reminding the congregation of several things:- The partnership between dog and owner is a working relationship. As, we should aid it's development by refraining from staring at the dog, and certainly from touching it. This creates distractions for the dog as both dog and owner are learning each other's personalities.
- Please don't rush up to the owner. Instead, greet him in a relaxed manner.
- Since Easter worship is attended by the entire congregation, we are asking parents to be especially mindful of children who may want to interact with the dog. We know it's difficult (it's all I can do to refrain from scratching this beautiful dog's belly), but it's essential for the new relationship.
On behalf of Central Baptist I thank everyone in advance for their assistance in this endeavor! - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad |
