Some Updates From Church Council

Central’s Church Council has met (virtually) and has taken some steps to keep our congregation pursuing its mission during this ongoing health crisis. Here are some updates. This is long, but please read it all the way through!

Worship

Central Baptist will follow the county’s guidance and remain closed through April 19. We are sorry to take this step, especially as it means we will be unable to gather together in person on Easter Sunday, but at this time it is a necessary precaution.

We will continue to gather Sunday mornings via a live stream (as long as it doesn’t break, in which case we will upload a recording) while we are absent from the building. An archive of all our live streams can be found at our website’s video archive.

Pastor Wes is exploring how to mark Holy Week in conjunction with Bethany Lutheran and Epworth United Methodist. Keep a look out for details.

Ham Drop Off

The Bread of Life Food Pantry will be having a special pantry day on Saturday, April 4 and are still in need of hams to give to clients. Central Baptist Church will be receiving hams on Friday, April 3, from 4–6 PM. Here is how this drop off will work.

  • Pull into the Church driveway up to the loading area by the ramp.
  • Place your ham on the bottom step.
  • Wave to Chuck and MiMi as you drive away.

Don’t worry, the hams will be gathered!

If you are unable to drop off during those hours, please contact Vicki to make alternate arrangements.

Visitation

The extroverts in the congregation are itching to get out and see people! To give these folks some welcome relief we’re setting up a “Drive By Visit” schedule. If you would love to see some of your Central Baptist Family during these days of physical separation, please follow this link and let Karen know.

Giving

At present, our Congregation has enough money saved up to pay our bills and keep the building maintained. If folks don’t feel comfortable holding their offerings until we meet in person again, there are options.

  • Mail your offerings to church, where they will be collected.
  • Set up bill pay through your bank (sorry, we can’t help you with that)
  • Use our online donation button on the church’s website.

You could also get out of the house and drop your offerings at the Church mailbox. We can’t actually recommend that, but if you would like to get out of the house we can’t stop you.

More importantly, we want our congregation to remember the call to give to others. Our Church Council is exploring several options to give to organizations which are combatting this pandemic in various ways, and will we be presenting options in the near future.

Virtual Gatherings

Aside from worship, we’re going to be setting up times to do virtual gatherings while we are physically separated. A women’s group, book study, and virtual coffee house have all be proposed.

These gatherings will all held using Zoom, which is a free application for both mobile and desktop computers and requires no account to participate. Expect announcements on these in the coming week.

Keeping Us in the Loop

We are doing our best to remain connected with folks, but we’re certain someone or something will fall through the cracks. If you know of a need which the church might fulfill, or if you have a prayer request you’d like our community to pray for, please visit this webpage and let us know.
